DIY: A Simple Bow

Alright let's try a simple sewing DIY today! We're going to make a simple bow <3!

(This is a sewing tutorial, but you can also do this with fabric glue, you'll just have to wait for the glue to dry in between steps <3)

Here is what you'll need! Some scrap fabric (light & stiff fabric works best, but if you want to make them out of different fabric you can always give it some extra support by adding some jewelry wire!), some thread (I'm using white for the visibility in this tutorial, but you'll want a color closer to your fabric!), a needle, & some scissors (don't use thread scissors for fabric tho, I do here, but do as I say not as I do x3)!

Once you've got all that, you'll want to cut a length of fabric twice the size of the bow you want to make.

Now that you have your length of fabric, put the scrap to the side for later. You can thread your needle here, measuring your thread to be twice the width of your fabric & then a little bit more so you can tie it off!

Once you have your fabric & needle prepared take your fabric & fold the ends together to meet in the middle.

Then sew these ends together! I used a simple whip stitch, I'm not the best with sewing, but just try & keep the spacing relatively even & it won't matter too much. Just sew all the way down to the end & make sure it's secured with a few knots!

Once you've sewn the ends together you'll have a tube of fabric, turn it so the seam in on the inside.

Now fold it down this seam in a zigzag pattern to create the shape of the bow. Add of few stitches to hold it together once you get a shape you're happy with.

(Yes mine is lopsided it's okay ^^")

Now let's bring back our scrap fabric! Cut out a short & long strip of fabric.

(You don't have to add the long strip if you don't like the look of it, that's completely optional!)

Once you have your fabric strips, lay the long one across the length of the bow & put the short strip over top of it over the part of the bow that's pinched together.

Now wrap the short strip around the center tightly to secure your bow together.

Now all you have to do is sew the whole thing together! Be careful as the fabric is pretty thick now, watch where your fingers are to make sure you don't poke yourself with the needle & use a thimble to push the needle through if you need to.

Here we are, a finished bow! You can see where it's sewn here because my thread is white, but if you don't have a good match for your bow color you can always glue a charm over the middle so the treads are hidden! (Or just color them x3!)

You can put these bows on pins, clips, headbands, attach them to clothes, add safety pins or charms or gems to them, anything you can think of to customize your bow to your tastes!

I hope you find this tutorial helpful! Happy DIYing! <3

(If anyone makes a bow with this tutorial feel free to submit pictures! I'd love to post a collage of community photos <3!)
