Interview with PizzaMachine

Updated: Jun 26

I can't thank PizzaMachine enough for reaching out to me about an interview! make sure to check him out!

Q: Thank you for reaching out to me ^-^ Tell us a little bit about yourself! (Feel free to say as much or as little as you'd like!)

A: Thanks for including me! I’m the crunkcore/hyperpop artist pizzamachine. I make a bit of everything (versatility baby! 😎), but I’m mostly known for my crunkcore music. Other things you oughta know… Christmas is one of my favourite things ever. I obviously love pizza, but also Chinese food. I play video games, watch tv, go for walks, explore, and drink coffee. I have a couple kids and a lovely wife. I read books. I go to thrift stores for fun. I’m Canadian. I swim. I have fun with my kids. I go to work. I make albums constantly. In conclusion: I am busy lol.

Q: What's your history with the Scene and it's influence on what you create?

A: I was on MySpace all the time as a kid, so that’s how I discovered TONS of scene music. I was watching Millionaires interviews when they were new on the scene, same with Brokencyde, BOTDF, etc. I cannot emphasize enough how much I LOVED scene music. I remember how fun The Broken by Brokencyde was when it first came out: it was so unique at the time. The OG Myspace scene was all about experimenting and having fun, so I try to recapture that intrepid spirit in my music, while boldly going where no scene artist has gone before. Basically, I try to make music that’ll help people have fun, jam, and just enjoy life. The fun spirit of scene music will always be relevant. There’s so much pain in the world, that a simple distraction like a funny crunkcore track can make you forget your worries for a bit.

Q: What would you say inspires your music?

A: I always wanted to be in my own band, but that never happened when I was younger, so I’m living the music making dream now solo. Collabs help it feel less lonely, lol. Sometimes my sadness inspires me, sometimes happiness. Music is a vessel for me to express my thoughts, opinions, and creativity, and truly be heard, and I love it. Every album is made with a specific goal in mind, and is intensely affected by my emotions at the time. I wanna give a unique flavour in each album too. It keeps it interesting. I’m inspired by a lot of various genres like pop, hip-hop, EDM, nu-metal, synthpop, dubstep, house music, psytrance, hyperpop, black metal, etc. I could go on, I love music lol.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your creative process? How does a song go from idea to upload?

A: The thing is that I’ve been figuring out musical production as I’ve been going along. I’ve had to remaster a lot of my old tracks cause I hated how they sounded haha. My creative process varies a lot both in production and sound ideas, and has changed over the years. I’m always learning, and improving. My new Scene Dreams is a testament to how far I’ve come. Generally, songs start with a beat, dabbling with a synthesizer, or a lyrical idea. It depends. Songs go from idea to upload quickly sometimes and other times very slowly. For example, my very crunky song Mama took forever to mix lol.

Q: Who is an artist you look up to and why?

A: I adore Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation. Her relentless drive, energy, and vocal talent is so inspiring. I’ll leave it at that.

Q: What are some of your favorite tracks you've made? Anything you want to share about them?

A: Ho boy. Dad Lyfe and CrUnKyNeSs are special tracks to me, and definitely some of my favs. The catchy pop hooks, hip-hop flavour, vocals, and production is on point for those tracks. Still 2009 is one of my prettiest tracks though. I go back to my album Pizza ex Machina a lot to listen to it, it’s one of my favourite releases. If I just wanna laugh I’ll listen to Crunkcore Revenge tracks like Whip it Around and Fuck Your Party. It’s tough to make a top 5 fav tracks list considering I’ve made so many tracks and keep making them relentlessly. I released four crunkcore albums this year already, lol. Ice Cream Slut is still an all-time banger with crazy bass, and Expensive has some of my most relatable lyrics ever.

Q: Tell us something you're really passionate about, can be related to music or anything else!

A: I’m passionate about always improving myself and becoming a better person. My kids deserve to have the best Dad ever, so that’s wassup. Never gonna stop being the best I can be.

Q: Where did your name 'Pizza Machine' come from?

A: My name is actually “pizzamachine” with no spaces, though sometimes capitalized. Just setting the record straight lol. It all started as a kid, when I wanted to start writing music reviews on Sputnikmusic.com for fun. I figured I would be a review machine, and I loved pizza. Thus, I became pizzamachine. It just so happened to be a perfect crunkcore artist name too so I kept it cause why not? Pizza rules.

Q: You do a lot of collabs, what's your favorite collab you're done so far?

A: Very tough question. Every collab has been important or uniquely special. In terms of songs I’ve been invited on, my favourite is probably Stargazers by Kuma, AKA… It has a great spacey vibe, and it’s special cause I came up with the rap when I was super sick, right after I had an awful interview. I pulled out my phone, I felt like shit, and did an angry freestyle in the car while attempting to not upchuck. Good times lol, but it made for swagliciousness. My song I did Do it Casually also feels pretty special. Maya Malice’s feature on it is just perfection, her voice blends so nicely on my tracks it’s actually crazy. Every track with Maya has been iconic af, I’m so thankful to have worked with them. My new song Unstoppable with Bellovddd is nuts, and Scene Killaz is another slammer. My favourite collab? Guess I don’t have one, they all kinda slap.

Q: Anything you want to share about any upcoming projects?

A: Only that I plan to never stop making music. I plan to continue making crunkcore albums until I die (sorry haterz haha), but I’m gonna branch out too. I’ll hopefully release purely pop albums too, and some hip-hop mixtapes. I refuse to be pigeonholed, I love music too much to stop. I’ll keep tossing new albums into my YouTube playlist all the time cause YOLO. If you don’t like me saying YOLO cause I’m in my 30s pls understand that life is short as Hell, and the older I get the more I think about it. That means I have less time to care if people think I’m cringey or not. Hence why I make a lot of crunkcore music lol, it’s fun to make and lots of people enjoy it, and that’s the entire point. If I can help people have a better day that’s awesome. So long story short, you can always count on me pizzamachine-ing it up in the shizz.

Q: Do you have any other artist recommendations to send us off with?

A: I was gonna recommend Kuma, AKA… but I feel like I already have lol. Laugh While You Can is a classic crunkcore artist that deserves more looks for sure. Family Force 5 is another overlooked crunkcore act. Obviously check out Millionaires and Brokencyde if you haven’t. If you like gothic metal, check out Draconian. I’m a fan of the band Ra too. Idk, I listen to a lot of music. Anywho, that’s all the questions so have a great life y’all. Peace. ✌🏻
